I love October.

What a great month.  It's not hot, but not cold yet (not a fan of the cold over here).  We're still enjoying 70 degree weather which is just perfect!  I got out all our fall/Halloween decorations yesterday and I loved making our house look a little more festive.  I've always loved Halloween, and now that I have kids, I have so much fun every year coming up with their costumes.  (Eventually they'll want to pick them out for themselves, so I'll enjoy it while I can! )

Another reason to love October?  It's Vegetarian Awareness Month!  And today, October 1st, is World Vegetarian Day!  Have some meatless meals this month to celebrate!  If the word "vegetarian" scares you, eating meatless doesn't mean tasteless!  There are tons of great recipes out there.  You can check out my recipe blog for some ideas (although I've been a slacker and haven't updated it in way too long)!

A couple days ago on Ellen, she had Dr. Neil Barnard (a doctor who believes the vegan diet is the best for optimal health) on her show and was talking to him about how she doesn't eat any meat or dairy anymore.  Most people think I'm crazy when they find out I don't eat meat or dairy either, but maybe now that Ellen does it too, people will just think I'm COOL!

Or maybe I need spiky hair and raccoon eyes to be cool. . .

happy vegetarian awareness month!!! How about some new recipes on the website, eh? I just made some lentil soup last night that was delish...i'll try to remember to post the recipe. I haven't done much cooking lately, and i'm ready and rearing to get back in the kitchen, but i need something fun and new to try! So, stop using your 3 children and absent husband as an excuse and give me some recipes!!! :)

Oh, and I think you're cool even without raccoon eyes :)

So by no dairy does that mean you use a butter alternative for recipes? What about cheese, sour cream, ice cream, etc? I can't say that going vegetarian would be that difficult for me (not speaking for Justin, of course! LOL!) since I've done it before (a year in college), but the no dairy thing would be difficult! :)

And I don't think the spiky hair or raccoon eyes look cool. Creepy, yes... especially on Ellen! :) Though it may be a fun Halloween costume for you! LOL! I wonder what your girls would think if you did your hair and make-up like that? ;)

Guess what... I actually know Dr. Barnard? Well, sort of anyway. As the Council of Professional Issues Chairperson for the Maryland Dietetic Association, I was in charge of putting together a 2-day conference for all the dietitians in the state last year and I had him come and speak at our conference. He did a great job and was very nice and easy to work with.

I didn't know that October is Vegetarian Awareness Month! Interesting. I'm going to check out your other site after this.

You asked about workout videos -- I mostly do Exercise TV on demand. I really like the Jackie Warner One on One workouts. I do the legs, arms and core workouts. The Biggest Loser ones are good, too, and I like Booty Ballet. I've tried a bunch of other ones and have liked some, not liked others. Jackie, Biggest Loser and Booty Ballet are my favorites!

Good luck!

Have you always been dairy free or did you just switch? We are trying to lower our dairy too. I am glad you are updating your recipe blog:)

How are you managing to do it all with three now?

O.k. so I check your veg blog all the time and it hasn't been updated for a while but I would love to join in on the posting. I've been cooking a lot of vegetarian food lately because a) I know it's just plain healthier and b) my kids love it and c)we're dairy free with the exception of Josh's string cheese which he BEGS for. Anyway, I've found that my fam likes the vegetarian dishes I serve better all around. Yum!

I don't think I could go meat and dairy free, we love them too much. I hope your gas problems are getting better, that is just aweful.
