We love pizza around here. I like making my own pizzas because I can control what goes on them and know that we’re actually getting a meal that’s good for us! We make a whole wheat crust (or when I’m feeling lazy I buy the pre-made whole wheat pizza dough from Trader Joe’s which is VERY good) and then top it with lots of veggies and soy cheese.
This week I used a recipe for the crust that I’ve only made one other time. I remembered that I liked it so thought I’d make it again, but after having it this time, Patrick told me that this is his new favorite crust recipe! I posted the recipe on my vegetarian blog, so you can check it out here if you’d like. We put lots of sliced mushrooms, red bell pepper, and spinach on it.
And it came out looking like this:
I know the crust doesn’t go all the way to the edge of the pan, so it looks far from perfect, but it’s rustic, right? I doubled the recipe and it made two large pans. Next time I’m going to quadruple it and freeze two crusts to have on another day like the recipe suggests. I’m all about time-savers!

Your pizza looks delicious! I'll have to try this dough recipe. I've used oats in rolls and bread, but never for pizza. I love making pizza crust from the Artisan Bread in 5 Minutes basic dough--you can get the recipe from their website, or from the book. You should check that out.
I can't wait to try this! I make pizza every week and I have been experimenting with different crusts. I'll let you know how it goes!
Two words for you--pizza stone. What a difference!
you seriously post just what I am thinking about that week when it comes to food or health. We made baguette pizzas earlier this week because I was in a hurry and didn't have a crust recipe. I was thinking how I needed to search around for one. Thanks so much! I can't wait to try this one out. Much healthier too!
that looks tasty and I agree with a fellow poster about pizza stones!
Yum! I make a crust similar to this recipe with whole wheat flour, but have never heard of adding oats! I am definitely going to give this one a go this week! (And I love rustic! :) (hmm...will I get double points using basil and tomatoes from my garden?! :)
I love all your food posts. Keep them coming. We love homemade pizza here at our house. I try to make it every Friday night. Thanks for all the yummy, healthy ideas. So sad we never got together before we moved. But if you want a vacation in the sun you have friends down in sunny Miami. This is a great place for running.
