loud & clear

I’m sure all parents wonder if the numerous things we try to drill into our kids are actually sinking in.  I’ve wondered that many times and, based on some of the ways I see them act at times, I feel I’m pretty justified!  Thankfully, there are some areas where I KNOW the information is getting through.  On our way to Trader Joe’s the other day, Berkeley and I had this little conversation:

B:  Why is that woman smoking?  It’s so bad for her!

me:  I know, she made a bad choice, didn’t she?

B:  Yeah, and now her body keeps telling her to keep smoking and smoking and she can’t stop even though she might want to!

me:  Exactly.

B:  I always cover my mouth when I walk by someone who smokes cuz I don’t like breathing it.

me:  Yeah, if you breathe that in too much, it can make YOUR body get sick too.

B:  OH!  I was thinking that, but I wasn’t sure.  So then you’d be running around looking for me going, “Where’s Berkeley?  Where’s Berkeley?  Oh, there she is on the sidewalk.  She’s dead.”

Oh, that Berkeley!  She can test my patience in ways I could never imagine, but also makes me laugh so hard that she tests my bladder!

Oh, man, the things kids say! I love those glimpses into what's going on in their minds. What a dramatic ending.

that is hilarious! ryan has been talking about smoking lately too, although he thinks only old men do it and that it's something he will also do as an old man... need berkeley to fill in the facts!

That's about the funniest thing I've read all day! LOL! Oh my gosh, just had to read it out loud to Justin, too. We think it would be fun to eavesdrop on a conversation between her and Jackson (he's always saying random things that crack us up, too. :)

Too funny! Berkeley is so candid and genuine. And that's a delicate thing...protecting yourself from smoke, without offending the poor soul puffing it into your air.

We struggle with that.
