Ever since we moved into our house four years ago, we knew we wanted to remodel both of our upstairs bathrooms. At the beginning of this year, we decided that we would use our tax returns for this project. I started going to lots of tile and design stores and looking at TONS of pictures online to figure out exactly what I wanted. I almost had everything picked out and then it happened—we were moving. We decided to go forward with remodeling both bathrooms because even though we wouldn’t be able to enjoy them, it should help to sell the house quicker.
The girls’ bathroom was going to be the easier of the two. Our master bath needed a COMPLETE gut job, so we decided to get the girls’ bathroom out of the way first. In their bathroom, we opted to leave the tub and the tile that surrounds it (it was in perfect condition) but replace everything else—toilet, floor, vanity, mirror, lighting. Patrick and I can do small DIY projects, but these bathrooms would be better left up to the professionals. We hired a contractor to complete these projects for us.
I forgot to take some pictures before the floor and vanity were ripped out, so here are some pictures that I found to give you an idea of what it looked like before. The floor tile had very dirty grout that never came clean and was chipped and cracked in many places. The vanity was a laminate countertop with an attractive particle board cabinet below it. The mirror and lighting were just not cute (although the kids in the pictures sure are)!
Ta-da! Here is what it looks like now!
It’s hard to get a great picture of the vanity with its position in the bathroom, so here’s a photo from the website where I ordered it:
Vanity: Costco
Tile floor: Porcelain tile from Home Depot
Toilet: Kohler Cimarron from Home Depot
Faucet: Overstock
Mirror: Marshall’s
Lighting: ReStore
It is such a huge improvement and we all love it. Our contractor Chuck is now working on bathroom #2—it is currently down to the studs in there! Stay tuned for what I’m sure will be some amazing reveal pictures! It will definitely look better than THIS:
