I really don’t like it when my kitchen countertops are messy. Unfortunately, stuff, stuff, and more stuff are constantly accumulating there and it drives me crazy! On our snow day last week, I spent some time organizing.
- I finally took the time to screw in a little hook to hang up my cute red colander above my sink and I love how it looks right there, not to mention it is so accessible since I use it all the time!
- I repurposed a little red tin container to put all of Emery’s food stuff in (bottles, rice cereal, spoons) that were previously taking over that corner of the counter, and it is all neatly contained now.
It’s amazing how a couple little changes like that can make my day. This probably sounds completely pathetic, but just those tiny improvements made me feel like I had accomplished something! And is it obvious that I love red?
And now for the corner of the kitchen that I have yet to tackle—the worst dumping ground of them all!
Looking at this picture reminds me of one of our favorite games. . . I Spy! (Click on the picture to enlarge it if you want to play!)
Can you find. . .
- a pair of Robeez
- a reusable shopping bag
- phone chargers
- cork floor samples
- a Marshalls receipt
- a Texas lunch box
- a white candle
- a coupon
- my new Blackberry (one of my fabulous Christmas gifts!)
- a box of Christmas cards
- wind-up teeth
- two pairs of gloves
- a picture of a nativity
- my friend’s SLR camera that she accidentally left over here and that I secretly want to keep
Could I fit anything else on that little desk? Yikes!

i love red kitchen gadgets. They seriously can spruce up any kitchen. The colander is so cute. Loving the FHE chart!! And I love the blackberry. It's been my saving grace these last few days when I haven't had a computer.
do you use the wind up teeth often? you always make me laugh...
i'm lovin' that colander idea! i use mine all the time, and yet i store it in the most inconvenient place in the kitchen cause there's nowhere else for it to go...so now i'm gonna copy you!!!!
are you counter tops Tropic Brown? i can't tell if they're brown or black, but they look a lot like mine...which i lurve!
that little corner you have yet to organize is the one thing my house doesn't have that i REALLY wish it did. granted it would be a disaster area all the time, but i really need somewhere to dump my stuff: my kids' shoes, charges, cork samples, etc :) right now all that junk is on my kitchen table...
btw, i've discovered a new and delicious way to eat kale (that my kids absolutely LOVE) ...i'll post the recipe on the website soon--cause who doesn't need more kale in their life?!?!? :)
My kitchen counter always looks like I never clean it, but I do--daily! Everyone loves to leave stuff there. Aaarrrrgggg!!
marci-- doesn't everybody? actually, it was the present i won at a white elephant Christmas party this year and the girls just love it!
emily-- please copy me! it's just the perfect spot! the counters are called tropical brown (i think) but they actually have no brown in them. there is a very light tan running throughout, but the overwhelming colors are charcoal grey and black. and please do post that kale recipe-- we love our greens around here!
emily-- i just remembered the counters are called "sapphire brown." i knew what i said before didn't sound quite right!
i Totally agree - doing something little like that makes me feel a great sense of pride in my organization skills - or rather lack of them because that's why i feel so awesome after I do it! I think it looks great - and i love red accents too!
Lookin' good, Mer! Home organization is one of the simple pleasures in life.
