just one more week

I usually start taking down all of our Christmas decorations the weekend after New Year's Day.  But this year, I need one more week of listening to Christmas music, enjoying the Christmas decorations in our house, and feeling like it's not QUITE time to get on with the normal day to day stuff that usually consumes me.  Since I'm in charge of taking down the Christmas decorations, I'm taking that extra week and no one can stop me!

Here are a few things I've loved in our house this year:

--The nativity set that I bought right after Christmas last year when it was 50% off, so this was the first year we had it up!  It's called Winter Carols, and I bought it here.

--Our Christmas tree-- I convinced Patrick to get an artificial tree this year and he was surprised at how much he loved it! (And I loved not having to water it and vacuum up needles daily!)

--The little kids' nativity set that I bought when Kendall was a baby.  The girls love it more each year and they loved rearranging it every day.  After five years, I'm still trying to figure out why the set came with a lion!  Anyone?

--Our little house elf.  This is the second year we've done this tradition and the girls had just as much fun waking up each morning and trying to figure out where the elf was perched that day.

As you may have noticed, I have not blogged about any of the MANY fun things our family did throughout the weeks leading up to and after Christmas, so stay tuned!

So the first thing that popped into my head when you wrote about the lion being in the nativity set is the Spirit of God hymn verse 4 where it says "How blessed the day when the lamb and the lion shall lie down together without any ire."

I'm in the same boat, Meredith. But isn't today the REAL 12th day of Christmas? So, why WOULD you take down the decorations before today, right?!?!? I'm hoping to have them down by Abby's b-day party on the 17th...hoping...

can't wait to hear more about your holidays....and maybe sometime i'll post aobut ours!!!

I don't know what's wrong with me. This year I wasn't that excited about getting all the decorations out. I was ready to put it all away the day after Christmas but the kids were horrified so I waited until New Year's Day. I packed everything away and now the house seems so clean and uncluttered. Maybe I just need some new holiday decorations.

my tree is still up too. i took everything else down but i've had a hard time parting with the tree, particularly since it's the only thing in my dining room :) i forgot about your elf tradition, i need to copy that! i had the same thought about the lamb and the lion lying down together.
