school bus

Every Monday through Friday, I drive Kendall to school at 9:00 am and then drive back to pick her up at 3:30 pm.  I know many parents who had to go through the grueling decision of whether or not to let their children ride the bus, but our only option was for Kendall to be a “car rider.”  Within the boundaries of our school system, we are divided into transportation zones.  Even if you choose to go to a school within the system that is not your home school, you can be bused to that school if you are within its transportation zone.  Well, since we did not like our home school, we applied and got Kendall in to a really great school, but we are just a couple blocks outside of its transportation zone.

Kendall loves the bus.  They get to ride it on field trips and that is always one of the first things she tells me about when I ask her how her field trip went.  This morning on the way to school, Kendall asked, “How come I can’t ride the bus to school, Mom?”  I told her that we don’t live close enough to the school to ride the bus.  “But we do live close to the school!”  She’s right.  We live just 2 miles away, which I consider to be close.  “We’re not quite close enough, though,” I replied, and then pointed to some houses we were passing.  “If we lived in those houses over there, then you’d be able to ride the bus.”  “So, let’s move to one of those houses then!” she responded.  It was a pretty expensive neighborhood, so I told her that we don’t have enough money to buy one of those houses.  “But what if I added my money together with Berkeley’s money?  Then would we have enough?”  Yep, I’m pretty sure we would.  I wonder why I didn’t think of that one!

Hey Meredith, I was just catching up on here. I think your kitchen looks great! I love red too. I also had to pull out my Dr. Weissbluth sleep bible the other day, and it was all new to me again. My main problem though is getting him in his own crib. I don't even have enough energy to get up to feed him twice a night, so he is still in our bed. Pathetic, huh.
And you could TOTALLY afford to buy one of those houses with the combined money. So she can ride the school bus...So funny!

Joseph goes to a magnet school so no one gets to ride the bus. But think how many days of bus riding it would be before they were sick of it and complain about it. So definitely not worth buying some big fancy house to listen to all that whining.

I loved Kendall's solution! Sounds like she and Berkeley must be loaded! :) If only she knew that in just a few short years she'll be grateful that she never had to take the 'shame train'. The grass is always greener, right? :)

Meredith, just dropping in to say hi and introduce myself. I moved from Charlotte shortly before you arrived. I've heard great things about you from Janice, and then I saw your comments on Molly's blog, so I just had to drop in and "peek" at you a little. You have a cute blog and an adorable family. Nice to "meet" you.
