worth the wait

They came on Tuesday morning as promised and started ripping out that sad excuse for a kitchen floor.  When they revealed the original 1972 floor that was hiding under two layers of vinyl, I was surprised to see that it was a heck of a lot better than what was covering it!

Berkeley loved watching the project.  She pulled up a little chair with her water and a box of crackers like she was watching a movie!  Then she got bored and spent some time on www.pbskids.org (or as Berks calls it “P-S-kids-dock-or”) while I tried to comfort a cranky baby.

And after about seven hours straight of hard work (they didn’t even stop for a lunch break!), here is the finished room:

I LOVE it.  Every time I walk in there now, I have an extra little spring in my step.  Berkeley said, “It’s so beautiful!  I love our new floor!”  I know it’s kind of hard to tell what it is from the pictures, but it is called a “luxury laminate” by FausFloor.  This particular pattern is made to look like travertine, but the pieces are actually made out of wood with the design of stone on the top, so they feel like wood under foot instead of stone.  They are lifetime guaranteed against staining or fading and I love that the company is very eco-friendly and practices green methods.  Here’s a close-up (each “tile” is about 1 foot by 2 feet):

On to the next project—we really need to spiff up the landscaping in the front yard.  Don’t you love that part about owning a home?  There’s always something to do, isn’t there?

Awesome! Now you can actually feel like you accomplished something when you clean your kitchen:) Next up on our personal homeowner's to-do list is a re-do on all the bathrooms. Not looking forward to that project.

Awesome. I bet it feels great to have made the decision--there are so many choices out there. I really like it. Glad Berkeley approves, too!
