cabinet reveal

The cabinets were finished last Tuesday, but I’ve been waiting to post the after pictures until the carpet guy came out to tack the carpet back in place. (We had to pull it back a bit to install the cabinets.)  The carpet guy still hasn’t come, but I know you ALL want to see the pictures, so here you go!

I am SO happy with how it turned out!  To me, it looks like this is the way it should always have been, which is exactly what I was hoping for.  We haven’t put everything away in the cabinets yet because as you can see on the right side, the carpet is flipped up, which means you can’t really open those doors to put stuff in there.  The right side cabinet is where a few baskets of children’s books will go.  Easy access for the kiddos—covered storage for ME!  The left side will be for TV stuff (maybe a new Blu-ray player?) and a few of Emery’s toys.  Most are down in the basement playroom, but she likes a few to be upstairs to keep busy when I’m on my computer.

I love how much brighter it feels—it was already the brightest room in the house with the wall of windows and the two skylights, so now it almost glows!  Now I just need to figure out the furniture in this room.  The leather couch will stay, but the rest of it needs to be tweaked a bit!  On the left side is a window seat that runs the full length of the room.  I don’t want to put anything in front of it, but that side of the room feels bare!  I think I need a Nate Berkus intervention. . .

And this right here just makes my day—no more CORDS!

Did you stain the brick? Great job! Looks good. I stained some on my mom's house. Makes such a difference.

shawnee-- haven't heard from you in AGES!!! how are you? we painted the brick white-- our guy sprayed the brick and cabinets all at the same time. let's see the picture of your mom's house!

Looks great Mer. Love the fresh clean look of white. It will be so nice to have that extra storage space and to hide those cords.

Meredith it looks great! So nice how much it lightens the room and updates the look with the white brick. What does the room like at the other end as far as furniture placement goes? I think a colored rug would be good to ground the room and add a little punch to all the bright light. I wish our house had that much natural light. You painted your kitchen cabinets too? Is that recent? Pics? I would love to do that but I just don't want to spend the money. If we wanted to stay here longer term I would. Who knows we'll probably end up here another 5 plus years.

stacy-- no, we didn't do the kitchen cabinets. i just meant that he sprayed the brick and the cabinets he built at the same time! (i wish we could do our kitchen too!) you really do NOT want to see the other side of the room-- the furniture placement struggles right now, which is why it is still a work in progress!

I love the finished look! And allow me to jump on the 'love the painted brick' band-wagon! White just looks so much more fresh and open. Love it! :)

Nice job..it does look like those cabinets have always been there, like they were meant to me. Once again, I love how you get an idea...and then see that it happens!
