six

Kendall has been counting down the days to her birthday for months now and she was so excited to wake up this morning and have the big day finally HERE!  When I went in to her room to wish her a happy birthday, I sat down on her bed and recounted to her the crazy day of her birth.  Like always, I teared up a little while telling it.  It still brings back a ton of emotions.

We fueled up for the day with waffles, strawberries, and whipped cream for breakfast before she headed off to her soccer game where she scored two goals!

This afternoon was the big party.  We did a joint party for Kendall and Berkeley and they each invited six friends from school to come tumble and jump at a local gymnastics center.  I had bought them each a little gymnastics unitard for the party and I thought they were so cute in them!

I thought the party favors I made turned out pretty cute.  I burned CDs with about twenty of K & B’s favorite songs and then packaged them up with a pinwheel and a headband for each girl.  It was easy to do and I hope they like the songs as much as my girls do!  It was quite a random mix, including songs from Wicked, Enchanted, Cars, and Curious George, and even a little Ace of Base, Steve Miller Band, Police, and Coldplay!

They all had such a fun time and could have stayed all day if we’d have let them!  Then we came home and it was definitely time for the tub.  This was the first time we put all three girls in there together and K & B just loved having Emery in there with them—Emery was pretty happy about it too!

We finished off the night with homemade pizza at Kendall’s request and had our little family party for her.

Kendall is a sweetheart.  She is a very sensitive girl, which can be frustrating at times, but it is also one of the things I love most about her.  She absolutely LOVES to read and is an amazing reader to boot!  It is so much fun hearing her read the scriptures to us each morning and rarely does she ever have to stop and have us help her on a word—when she does need help, it’s most likely one that an average adult would struggle with!

I’m also really proud of her for sticking with soccer.  I think the first season she was just going along with it so she could be with her friends and get the snack at the end.  The second season she had a different coach who was much more intense and she cried at every practice because it was too hard.  Now in her fourth season she is loving it and gets upset when a game gets rained out!

Kendall is a wonderful big sister.  One of my favorite things in the world is listening to K & B play house together and eavesdrop on the hilarious conversations that they have.  She loves helping out with the baby and gets so excited when she learns new things.  “Mom, I think the baby just learned how to wink!  I didn’t even teach her!”

Since Kendall started kindergarten this year, it has been strange having her gone from 9:00 am till 3:30 pm every day.  I don’t feel like I get enough one on one time with her anymore and when I do, I really enjoy it and realize how much I miss having her around.  I think I need to make more of an effort to find times where I can be with just her, without the distractions of her sisters.  Last year the two of us went on a date to see a local highschool’s version of The Sound of Music and we had the best time!  I’ve got to make this more frequent than an annual event!

Happy six years, Kendall.  Honestly, how can you already be SIX?  I was almost 28 years old when you made me a mother, yet I still didn’t feel ready for the journey I was about to begin.  Thank you for breaking me in.

What a great post, especially since it has been ages since I've seen Kendall--this helps me get to know her a little. And I love those party favors! Great idea! So much better than cheap toys and candy in a bag--not a fan. And I have a request--can we please have one of those CDs? You can bring it when you come for the wedding. My girls would love it!

Mirien-- yeah i always think those goodie bags that are just a bunch of cheap little trinkets thrown in a bag are such a waste, and are basically just SOMETHING to fill up a bag! i wanted them to be something that the kids would actually use and not throw away two days later! i'll definitely make you a CD. consider that "rent" for the few nights i'll be crashing there!

happy birthday kendall. looks like the party was a total success! and 3 in the tub looks like a party. plus, it's probably easier for you to not have to bathe emery separate. plus, it looks like all 3 were loving it!
